The best advice I found from Dr Cousens: The six Foundations on the Spiritual path.

The six foundations.

  1. Spiritual nutrition (food) and spiritual fasting
  2. Building the life force (prana) with pranayama, yoga, sacred dance, etc.
  3. Service and charity (when we give, we are connecting)
  4. Being inspired by a spiritual teacher (satsang), support by a spiritual group, reading the great litarature, jnana yoga
  5. Silence, meditation, prayer, mantra repetition, and chanting
  6. Shaktipat and the awakening of the kundalini energy.

When you are really present in yourself, you create the space for the other to exist.

I tend more to bhakti, raja and integral yoga, with the main focus on bhakti. Dr Cousens favours jnana yoga. Every soul has a different approach and that’s fine.
